Invitation for Expressions of Interest Producer, Helpmann Awards
Live Performance Australia (LPA) is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from suitably qualified person(s), groups or organisations to produce the annual Helpmann Awards from 2018 – 2020. We are interested in receiving responses from individuals and/or groups, organisations, production houses and event management companies that deliver events of scale.
BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
The annual Helpmann Awards recognise the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, regional touring, presentations for children, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre. The Helpmann Awards also incorporate the JC Williamson® and Sue Nattrass Awards® for outstanding contribution to the Australian live performance industry.
There are currently two main events associated with the Helpmann Awards: The Nomination Announcement, held simultaneously in capital cities around the country, and the Helpmann Awards Red Carpet, Ceremony and After Party‒an annual Gala show currently held in Sydney that is broadcast live.
PRODUCING MODEL FOR HELPMANN AWARDS 2018-2020
Currently, the Helpmann Awards Events are managed and delivered by LPA via a number of contractors and short-term employees, as well as permanent LPA staff. Longstanding Executive Producer, Jon Nicholls, is retiring from this role after the 2017 Helpmann Awards.
LPA is open to discussing different types of producing models for the Helpmann Awards 2018- 2020. As such, this EOI process seeks to understand the capabilities which exist in the market to decide the most appropriate way forward for the Helpmann Awards 2018-2020.
LPA will evaluate EOI responses against the following criteria:
i) Ability to articulate an artistic vision for development of the Ceremony and associated events within the brief provided
ii) Significant experience producing major live performance events or events of scale
iii) Demonstrated live broadcasting experience
iv) Demonstrated success in raising funds, sponsorship and stakeholder management
v) Demonstrated marketing and PR expertise, including social media
vi) Proven track record in delivering projects on time and on budget
vii) Experience and quality of key personnel
viii) Extensive live performance industry networks
ix) Proposed organisational structure.
Expressions of Interest will close on Friday 28 July 2017, 5pm (AEST)
