From the Chief Executive

Dear Member,

In September the LPA team has been preparing for the training sessions on the Code of Practice to Prevent Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Bullying. A reminder that the Code is mandatory for all LPA Members. Click here to view the sessions on offer in your state. We look forward to seeing our Members at the Code training sessions.

LPA is proud to be supporting two mental health initiatives this month: the Arts Wellbeing Collective and Support Act.

Congratulations to Arts Centre Melbourne on receiving funding from the Worksafe, WorkWell Mental Health Improvement Fund. LPA Members are invited to the Official Launch of the Arts Wellbeing Collective on World Mental Health Day, Wednesday 10 October. Click here for event details.

Support Act has developed a suite of materials that are freely available for download to help promote its Wellbeing Helpline, which has been established with support from Levis and Alberts’ The Tony Foundation. The Helpline is available to everyone in the industry. Click here to access these resources and read the media release.

If you have any industry issues you would like to discuss, please contact us at the LPA office.

LPA and MEAA Consultation Guidelines for engaging international Performers on Major Commercial Productions

As you may be aware, the “Agreement Governing the Use of Foreign Artists in Live Theatre” was terminated by Live Performance Australia (LPA) in 2012. Since then, the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) has sought to engage LPA in developing another agreement for engaging international performers for Major Musical Productions.

In late 2018, LPA in consultation with our Major Commercial Musical Producer Members, developed “Consultation Guidelines for engaging International Performers” (Consultation Guidelines).

On 18 December 2018, MEAA advised that it had accepted the Consultation Guidelines and that such Consultation Guidelines were “a very positive step for our industry.”

What is a Major Commercial Musical Production?

A Major Commercial Musical Production (MCMP) is a Production of musical theatre which is to take place in a venue with a seating capacity of more than 700 seats. The MCMP must be produced by at least one named producing party being a commercial producer.

What does this mean for Members?

  1. MCMP Members should follow the Consultation Guidelines
  2. Other Members who are contemplating the engagement of international perfomers, contact LPA as below.

Click here to access the Consultation Guidelines.

Latest news from the Arts Wellbeing Collective

LPA was a major sponsor of Arts Centre Melbourne’s ‘Arts Wellbeing Collective’ which commenced as a pilot program in 2017. We are thrilled to share the latest resource, Tour Well, promoting positive mental health and wellbeing whilst on tour. Tool Well consists of practical, evidence-based tips aimed at addressing common mental health and wellbeing challenges on tour.  We encourage our Members to circulate this resource amongst all their employees.
