Helpmann Awards
We established the Helpmann Awards in 2001 to celebrate and promote our industry.
Named in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann, the awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of our industry, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, regional touring, presentations for children and young people, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.
The Helpmann Awards events also include two lifetime achievement awards: the JC Williamson Award, which recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to our industry and shaped its future for the better, and the Sue Nattrass Award, which recognises outstanding service to our industry in a field that may not enjoy a high public profile.
The Helpmann Awards ACT II has been broadcast live on ABC since 2018, bringing it to an estimated audience of more than 200,000.
Industry Briefings
Our annual nation-wide industry briefings provide a valuable two-way conversation: you have the opportunity to discuss issues that are affecting you, and we can discuss our current work and strategic priorities with you.
Check out our Key Dates to find out when we are holding the next industry briefing.
Hall of Fame
Our online Hall of Fame pays tribute to the remarkable people within our industry. It features actors and directors, playwrights and designers, singers and instrumentalists, comedians and dancers, circus performers and puppeteers, theatre architects and entrepreneurs, arts administrators and even a critic or two.
Our initial Hall of Fame inductees were chosen by an expert committee. To this list we’ve added the recipients of our 2017 Centenary Awards and the annual recipients of our two annual lifetime achievement awards – the JC Williamson Award and the Sue Nattrass Award.
Member Training
We provide Member training on an as-needs basis. For example, in 2018 we provided training on our new Prevention of Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Harassment and Bullying Code of Practice, and in the past we have provided training on updated work health and safety regulations.
