National Cultural Policy consultation

Live Performance Australia CEO, Eric Lassen, welcomed today’s announcement that work is underway on the successor to Revive which was launched in January 2023.

‘As the name implied, Revive played a crucial role in helping to rebuild from the impact of the COVID pandemic and putting in place some of the foundational supports for the future, including the establishment of Creative Australia and bodies such as Music Australia and Creative Workplaces.

‘The next national cultural policy is an opportunity to build on those outcomes and put Australian artistic and creative enterprise on the pathway to long-term sustainability and success, at home and internationally.

‘Soaring costs of touring and production, cost of living pressures for audiences, and shifts in audience preferences continue to be significant challenges for the producers and presenters of live performance in Australia.

‘We need some big and bold policy proposals that will boost industry capability and confidence.

‘This includes LPA’s proposal for a Live Performance Production Incentive to encourage investment, underwrite Australian creative talent and capability, and create more jobs on and off our stages.

‘Production incentives are a proven and game-changing model to deliver cultural and industry outcomes and should be a top order priority for implementation as part of the next national cultural policy,’ Mr Lassen said.
