18-24 year olds are purchasing tickets to music festivals at lower rates than before the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s one of the insights contained in new research published last month by Creative Australia on the Australian music festival industry.
‘Soundcheck: Insights into Australia’s music festival sector’ was a commitment of the National Cultural Policy, Revive, to strengthen research and data collection on music festivals.
‘Soundcheck’ also found there were 535 music festivals presented in Australia across the 2022-23 financial year, with almost one in four an electronic music festival. Other popular genres were rock, country and indie.
It is estimated that four out of five acts who play at music festivals are Australian.
